AN EFFECT OF CARBON TETRACHLORIDE TREATMENT ON THE CHANGES OF SERUM URIC ACID LEVELS IN RATS

Abstract
An effect of carbon tetrachloride was studied on the changes of serum and urine levels of uric acid or allantoin in male rats. Concomitantly, a cause of the changes in these purines catabolites was undertaken in carbon tetrachloride intoxicated rats.
The injection of carbon tetrachloride to the rats showed an increasing tendency of serum and urine uric acid and also the significant increase of serum and urine allantoin. An increasing tendency of hepatic purines catabolizing enzymes activities; guanase(GDA), xanthine oxidase(XOD), uricase and adenosine deaminase(ADA) was generally observed in carbon tetrachloride intoxicated rats. Moreover, the activities of XOD and GDA in sera were markedly elevated by the injection of carbon tetrachloride to the rats.
In the purified enzyme preparation, an important enzyme, XOD, in the" final purine catabolizing pathway which acts on the production of uric acid showed the higher activity in carbon tetrachloride intoxicated rats than that of control group, and then the Vmax value showed the more increased and the Km value with xanthine as substrate was more decreased than that of control group in the liver of carbon tetrachloride intoxicated rats.
